BAKU — The Azerbaijani Parliament has issued a strong condemnation of recent resolutions passed by the Dutch Parliament, labeling them as biased political acts that misrepresent the realities in the South Caucasus and undermine regional peace efforts.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan expressed its disapproval of two resolutions adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2024. The Azerbaijani legislative body criticized these resolutions for being founded on incorrect information and failing to promote peace, stability, or constructive dialogue in the South Caucasus. The resolutions are viewed as one-sided, ignoring recent historical facts, international legal norms, and ongoing regional challenges.
The Milli Majlis specifically objected to the Dutch Parliament’s demand for the release of individuals detained in Azerbaijan on charges including terrorism, separatism, premeditated murder, and severe violations of international humanitarian law, who are referred to as “Armenian military prisoners.” This, according to the Azerbaijani Parliament, shows a blatant disregard for the rule of law and hampers efforts to combat terrorism and hold accountable those responsible for crimes against peace and humanity.
Additionally, the Azerbaijani Parliament denounced the allegations of looting Armenian cultural heritage as part of a broader campaign that ignores the destruction and misappropriation of Azerbaijani cultural, religious, and historical assets during Armenia’s 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories. It also highlighted the Netherlands’ colonial past and ongoing policies that it described as perpetuating global dependencies, characterizing these actions as hypocritical.
The statement from the Milli Majlis ended with a call for the Dutch Parliament and its senior officials to stop actions that obstruct the establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus. It emphasized Azerbaijan’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation based on mutual respect and factual acknowledgment.
