Baku: "The Azerbaijani state continues its efforts to increase the international community's attention to the issue of missing persons," Deputy Chief of the State Security Service, Sharafat Hasanov, said at the international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons," held within the framework of cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hasanov highlighted that since 2023, Azerbaijan has been actively hosting international events focused on the missing persons issue. He announced plans for another international conference on this topic, scheduled for October this year, as part of the Baku Dialogue. Hasanov emphasized the significance of the final documents from the international conferences held in Azerbaijan in 2024 and 2025, which were circulated as official documents of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council, demonstrating the value that UN bodies attach to Azerbaijan's efforts.
Hasanov expressed optimism that the discussions during the current conference would contribute to strengthening international cooperation in resolving the issue of missing persons. He acknowledged the crucial role of the ICMP, an international organization specializing in the search for and identification of missing persons, and expressed hope for continued, sustainable collaboration with the organization. This cooperation is expected to create new opportunities for clarifying the fate of missing Azerbaijani citizens.
He further stressed the importance of effective cooperation with international organizations and the joint efforts of relevant state bodies within the State Commission. Hasanov conveyed confidence in successfully executing the extensive tasks ahead and ensuring the timely and effective implementation of the instructions provided by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in this field.
