BAKU — The upcoming COP29 conference in Baku is heralded as one of the most inclusive UN events to date, according to Yalchin Rafiyev, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and lead negotiator for COP29, during the “29 Climate Conversations: Road to COP29” media workshop.
According to Trend News Agency, Rafiyev outlined the core agenda for COP29, focusing on solidifying a universal goal for combating climate change that was first set in motion at the 2009 Copenhagen conference. This entails confirming the commitment to allocate $100 billion annually to aid climate change efforts in developing countries. He stressed that with the evolving global economic landscape and new challenges, it’s crucial that this year’s conference in Baku recalibrates the financial commitments to reflect current needs.
Preparations for COP29 are robust, with ongoing negotiations aiming to refine the positions of the parties involved and develop a unified strategy for the conference. Azerbaijan, set to host approximately 70-80,000 attendees in November, is positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the global climate agenda.
