Deputy FM Highlights Azerbaijan’s Commitment to Missing Persons Initiatives at International Conference

Baku: "We hope for the active involvement of the international community in the issue of missing persons," stated Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister, Elnur Mammadov, during his speech at the international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons." This event was organized in collaboration with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Elnur Mammadov outlined various initiatives supported by Azerbaijan aimed at locating missing persons. He emphasized the country's contribution to international efforts in this critical area. The deputy foreign minister highlighted that since November 2020, Azerbaijan has returned the remains of more than 2,000 Armenian servicemen to Armenia, a gesture underscoring their commitment to resolving post-conflict humanitarian issues without seeking revenge.

Additionally, Elnur Mammadov pointed out that Article 9 of the agreement initialed on August 8, 2025, was focused on determining the fate of missing persons, an initiative spearheaded by Azerbaijan. He reaffirmed that Azerbaijan has consistently supported projects and initiatives within the frameworks of the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other international organizations to locate missing persons and will continue these efforts in the future.
