EBRD Approves $200 Million Loan for A101’s Sustainability Projects in Trkiye

BAKU: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has granted a $200 million A/B structured loan to A101, Trkiye’s leading discount retailer, to back its sustainability initiatives, including the expansion and upgrading of its retail network with eco-friendly technologies.

According to Trend News Agency, the EBRD’s financial package includes a $100 million A loan directly from the bank and a $100 million B loan syndicated to various commercial lenders. Out of the total $200 million, $100 million is earmarked for committed use, with $82 million provided by EBRD and a further $18 million by the Green for Growth Fund. The funds will support A101’s medium-term capital expenditure program, designed to open new stores and warehouses across Trkiye, renovate existing outlets with climate-friendly technologies, and install solar panels to optimize the chain’s internal energy consumption.

A101, owned by Turgut Aydin Holding, operates over 13,600 stores nationwide, making it the largest retail chain in
Trkiye. This financial aid from EBRD will help A101 enhance its energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and implement other resource-efficient measures throughout its operations. This initiative is part of the EBRD’s broader effort to promote sustainable development in Trkiye, where the bank has invested over 20 billion euros in more than 455 projects since 2009, mainly within the private sector.
