Preparations for COP29 Underway at Baku Olympic Stadium


BAKU: Media representatives were given a comprehensive preview of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming COP29 climate conference during a tour of the Baku Olympic Stadium, the designated venue for the event. The tour, organized by the COP29 Azerbaijan Organising Committee, aimed to familiarize local media outlets with the extensive arrangements in progress.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, over 60 media representatives, including leaders from television, radio, and online news platforms, attended the tour. They were provided with detailed insights into the preparations for COP29, with participation from key figures such as Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Narmin Jarchalova, Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company. The tour highlighted the nearing completion of construction and installation work, with the venue set to be handed over to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on schedule.

Media representatives had the op
portunity to explore the Blue and Green Zones of the stadium, gaining insights into the infrastructure and technology available at the venue. The Media Centre, designed to accommodate the effective work of media personnel, was also showcased. It was noted that nearly 2,700 media representatives from prominent global outlets have been accredited for coverage, with the registration process ongoing. The 6,325-square-metre Media Centre is equipped to host 1,200 media personnel working simultaneously.

It was also revealed during the tour that 28,000 representatives from various countries have registered to participate in COP29, with numbers expected to rise as the event approaches. The organisers have emphasized inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that the venue’s design meets all necessary requirements for accessibility.

The tour concluded with a Q and A session, where media representatives received comprehensive answers to their questions.
