TASHKENT: The electoral process in Uzbekistan is proceeding smoothly and peacefully, according to a statement by Talha Mahmud, a member of the Senate from Pakistan, who is observing the elections. Mahmud commended the Central Election Commission for the exceptional organization of the voting process, noting the calm and orderly manner in which the elections are being conducted.
According to Trend News Agency, polling stations across Uzbekistan have opened for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) and local kengashes (councils) of people’s deputies. The voting commenced on October 27, with polling stations operating from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5). Preliminary results are anticipated by October 28.
The elections feature participation from five political parties: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.” This year’s el
ectoral process utilizes a mixed system based on the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. It involves electing 75 members of the Legislative Chamber through single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian system, while the remaining 75 members are elected via proportional representation with party lists.
A significant aspect of the current elections is the complete digitalization of the process through the “E-Saylov” information system. Additionally, over 850 foreign and international observers, including missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), are overseeing the election process to ensure transparency and fairness.
Senator Mahmud emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing national development and improving the quality of life for its citizens, highlighting the role of both the people and the government in steering Uzbekistan towards a prosperous future.
