TASHKENT: Polling stations across Uzbekistan have commenced operations for the election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the country’s parliament, and local councils of people’s deputies. The announcement was made by Zayniddin Nizamkhdjaev, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, as reported by Trend News Agency.
According to Trend News Agency, a total of 11,028 polling stations opened their doors at 8:00 a.m. local time. Additionally, 57 polling stations have been set up in diplomatic and consular missions across 40 foreign countries to accommodate citizens residing abroad. Nizamkhdjaev indicated that a significant number of voters are participating in this electoral process, with 19,944,859 voters registered in the electronic list of the automated election management system. Among these, 165,631 voters are located outside Uzbekistan.
Nizamkhdjaev emphasized that this year’s elections are conducted under a mixed electoral system, aligning with the updated Constitution and national el
ectoral legislation. Under this system, 75 members of the Legislative Chamber will be elected from single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian electoral system. The remaining 75 members will be chosen through the proportional representation electoral system via party lists.
