Escalating Water Resource Issues in Azerbaijan Highlighted at Conference

BAKU: Water resource problems are rapidly escalating both in Azerbaijan and on the international stage, according to MP and Vice-Rector of ADA University Fariz Ismailzade, who spoke at the "Water and Gender Equality" conference. According to Trend News Agency, Ismailzade emphasized the significant role universities play in addressing these challenges. "Our daily lives and lifestyles often contribute to resource wastage. In this context, universities play a crucial role. They are leading institutions within society and platforms that shape the younger generation. Research conducted at universities significantly contributes to addressing water issues," he said during the conference. The conference, organized jointly by the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, the State Water Resources Agency, and ADA University, aimed to foster discussions on climate change, water resource management, and gender equality in the field. Ismailzade also highlighted the plans to establish a Union of Azerbaijan i Universities as part of COP29, aimed at collaboratively tackling climate change challenges and sharing resources. "We need to unite our efforts to foster a new way of living in society and support innovation," Ismailzade added. He noted that the involvement of universities, research centers, non-governmental organizations, and scientists in the COP process has increased over the years, enhancing the collaborative efforts to address these challenges. The panel session at the conference also discussed the impact of climate change on women's lives, their role in the protection and management of water resources, motivation to choose specialties in this field, as well as ensuring gender balance in staff appointments.
