First Vice-President Aliyeva Visits Azerbaijan State Pantomime Theatre.

Baku: First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva of the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with her family, recently visited the Azerbaijan State Pantomime Theatre to assess its current conditions.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Minister of Culture, Adil Karimli, provided an overview of the theatre’s history and significance to Mehriban Aliyeva and her family during the visit. The Azerbaijan State Pantomime Theatre, initially established as a theatre-studio in 1994, operated under the Theatre of Young Spectators for six years before being granted state status in 2000. Since 2005, it has been housed in the former “Shafaq” cinema building.

The theatre has staged numerous works by various authors over the past thirty years, leveraging the pantomime genre’s advantage of transcending language barriers. Its performances have represented Azerbaijani culture internationally, with appearances in countries such as Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and Russia. The Pantomime
Theatre remains one of the most frequented cultural institutions in Azerbaijan, enjoying significant popularity among audiences.

The building that currently houses the theatre, constructed in 1900, is recognized as a local architectural monument. During the visit, plans for necessary renovation works on the building were also discussed with the First Vice-President.
