Baku: In the future, regional organizations will have greater importance than global organizations, said former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik during the panel discussion titled 'Global Security and the Balance of Power: Respect for International Law, New Issues, New Challenges' at the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the European Union has been left alone as the United States is withdrawing from the positions and organizations it previously held. Bondevik emphasized that this shift has naturally led Europe to exhibit more solidarity today, as they find themselves isolated. He predicted that regional organizations will increasingly assume a more significant role than global organizations, particularly in security matters.
The former Prime Minister also called for changes within the United Nations, specifically in the composition of the UN Security Council. He pointed out the current situation's unfairness, highlighting that Africa and the Arab world do not have permanent seats on the Security Council. Furthermore, only two countries from the European Union participate, which he implied does not adequately represent the region's interests and influence on the global stage.
