Tbilisi: "Georgia fully supports the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and, if necessary, may also act as a facilitator in this process," said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, at the 10th trilateral meeting of the Foreign Relations Committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Georgian official emphasized that Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia have become a transit hub and highlighted that trilateral cooperation is developing in all areas. Samkharadze also addressed the issues of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, noting that these regions remain under Russian occupation and that restoring Georgia's territorial integrity is a priority for the country. He expressed concerns about children in these occupied regions being unable to receive education in their native language.
Samkharadze further stated that Georgia condemns the aggression against Ukraine and supports the Ukrainian people. Discussing Georgia's international relations, he noted that the country faces significant pressure due to crises arising from conflicts, advocating for resolving problems through peaceful means.
He also expressed criticism toward some countries and organizations, accusing them of exploiting Georgia's sincerity and attempting to push the country toward detrimental actions. Samkharadze claimed that when Georgia resisted these pressures, these entities collaborated with violent groups within the country.
Additionally, the Georgian parliamentary official noted the importance of tourism, stating that 60% of tourists visiting Georgia come from neighboring countries, and emphasized that official Tbilisi prioritizes maintaining strong relations with its neighbors.
