Peace Bridge Coordinator Warns Against Hasty Actions in Peace Process

Yerevan: 'Moving too fast may harm the peace process,' said Areg Kochinyan, coordinator of the 'Peace Bridge' initiative and President of the Armenian Council, at a press conference held on the meeting of experts from Azerbaijani and Armenian civil societies within the framework of the initiative, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kochinyan stressed the importance of a measured approach, pointing out the extensive history of conflicts, crimes, and tragedies between the two nations. He cautioned that rapid actions could potentially damage the fragile peace process that is currently underway.

Kochinyan highlighted the geopolitical pressures surrounding the region, noting that neither geopolitical processes nor regional dynamics would pause for the peace process. He referred to the current global instability, mentioning wars to the north, south, and west, and the looming possibility of conflict to the east. This environment has created what he described as a 'ring of fire' around the region, emphasizing the urgent need for stability.

He also pointed out the strategic importance of the South Caucasus, especially as restricted flights in the north and south lead many aircraft to pass over the region to maintain connections with the West. This situation underscores the significance of the normalization and peace process for both Europe and the United States, which have shown increased interest in the region.

Kochinyan concluded by underscoring the delicate balance required in the peace process. While it is crucial to maintain momentum to capitalize on current geopolitical and domestic political opportunities, it is equally important to adhere to the principle of 'do no harm.' He reiterated that excessive speed could jeopardize the ongoing efforts towards normalization.
