President Ilham Aliyev Addresses 82nd Session of UN ESCAP

Baku: President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, addressed participants at the Eighty-second session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), reports APA. In his address, President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to advancing sustainable development and fostering regional connectivity, trade, and economic cooperation through ESCAP, especially in light of current global uncertainties.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's progress since his last address to the body in 2021, noting significant transformations in the South Caucasus. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan's dedication to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and emphasized the historic progress made in normalizing relations with Armenia, including trade relations and transit access facilitation.

President Aliyev also discussed ongoing reconstruction efforts in liberated territories, impacted by past conflicts. The Great Return Program has seen over 80,000 people return to the Garabagh and East Zangezur regions, despite challenges such as landmines, which continue to pose humanitarian and development risks.

Azerbaijan's economic growth, social investments, and strides in sustainable development were highlighted, with a focus on poverty reduction and infrastructure improvements. The country is enhancing its role as a connectivity hub, and the development of the Zangezur Corridor is expected to boost regional links between Asia and Europe.

The address concluded with President Aliyev's mention of Azerbaijan's increasing international engagement opportunities and the upcoming hosting of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum, indicating the growing confidence in Azerbaijan's foreign policy and development strategies.
