President of Georgia Highlights Importance of Friendly Relations with Azerbaijan for South Caucasus Peace

Tbilisi: President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili emphasized the significance of friendly relations with Azerbaijan as a cornerstone for peace in the South Caucasus during a meeting with Azerbaijanis at the Tbilisi Juma Mosque. He highlighted the social integration of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia as a key focus for both himself and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Kavelashvili described President Ilham Aliyev as a great friend, underscoring the deep affection between the peoples of Georgia and Azerbaijan. He stated that the stability and peace in Georgia are a direct result of these friendly relations amidst current events. President Kavelashvili also noted the broader regional cooperation, mentioning good relations with Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Armenia, and highlighted Armenia's recent participation in peaceful cooperation efforts, marking the beginning of a peaceful South Caucasus.

President Kavelashvili further discussed President Aliyev's interest in the welfare of Azerbaijanis in Georgia, particularly concerning their education and proficiency in the state language. He stressed the importance of every Georgian citizen, regardless of national identity, knowing the state language, and expressed his satisfaction upon hearing a representative of the older generation speak Georgian. The President reiterated the historical coexistence of diverse communities in Georgia, emphasizing that Georgia is a common homeland for all its citizens. He expressed readiness to support social projects aimed at enhancing language proficiency and integration.
