BAKU — In a recent interview, Ataami Mirzayev, head of the Fuzuli studies sector at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, expressed opposition to relocating the remains of the renowned poet Fuzuli to Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mirzayev emphasized that such a move would disturb Fuzuli’s soul, citing the poet’s own wishes to be buried near the tomb of Imam Hussain, as expressed in his verses. Mirzayev referenced discussions from the Soviet era about relocating Fuzuli’s remains, noting that former Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev had once remarked that the necessity of such an action should be left to time. Mirzayev strongly advocated respecting Fuzuli’s original burial wishes, highlighting the poet’s deep religious convictions and his lifelong impact by the tragedy of Karbala.
