Russian Court Keeps Former Azerbaijani Lawyer Elman Pashayev in Custody

Moscow: A Russian court has detained Azerbaijani former lawyer Elman Pashayev, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports. The Second Western District Military Court has revised the petition of E. Pashayev, who is accused in a fraud case, to change the pre-trial detention measure. The petition was rejected. “The decision to extend the pre-trial detention measure remains unchanged,” the judge announced.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it should be noted that on January 13, the Moscow Garrison Military Court extended Pashayev’s detention until March 15. At that meeting, it became known that another criminal case had been opened in which the former lawyer was involved as a suspect. This criminal case is related to his promise to a drug dealer named Zakharov that he would be comfortable in a special military operation zone. Allegedly, Pashayev promised Zakharov that he would receive a state award and then be released.

It should be noted that in the fall of last year, the first criminal case was opened against Pashayev under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on a particularly large scale). According to the investigation, in February 2024, during a personal meeting in Moscow with blogger Elena Blinovskaya’s husband, Alexei Blinovsky, Pashayev convinced him that in exchange for a large cash reward, he could release them from liability in a criminal case previously opened against them. It turned out that Pashayev received 18.5 million rubles and 300 thousand dollars from Blinovsky for this purpose.
