Shusha: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the restored Sadigjan House, a historical and architectural monument in Shusha. Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, briefed the head of state on the restoration project.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the building suffered extensive neglect during the occupation of Shusha, leading to severe deterioration of its roof, floors, and stone masonry. Many architectural elements were damaged, and the engineering infrastructure became unusable. Following an Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev in 2022, funds were allocated for the design and restoration of the house, which was once home to renowned Azerbaijani musician and tar virtuoso Mirza Asad oghlu Sadig, known as Sadigjan.
In 2022, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Sadigjan's house. A year later, the restoration concept was reviewed, and the work on the historical monument commenced in 2024. Located on Sadigjan Street in Shusha, the house-museum includes a basement and two above-ground floors. Architecturally, it is distinguished by its pointed-arch windows and large stone masonry framing the entrance. The building is recognized as a national monument of historical and architectural significance in Azerbaijan.
The restored house-museum features exhibition halls dedicated to Sadigjan's life and legacy, Azerbaijan's national musical heritage, and Shusha's rich literary and artistic traditions. The complex also includes a concert hall, a mugham exhibition hall, a caf©, a souvenir shop, a reception area, and a musical instrument workshop.
During the event, the head of state was informed about the sculpture 'The Voice of Eternity,' an artistic interpretation of the tar, Azerbaijan's national musical instrument. The sculpture, created by Honored Artist Rashad Mehdiyev, features a tree rising from the instrument's strings, symbolizing music emerging from the native soil. It represents deep roots, resilience, and rebirth, portraying music as a symbol of national identity, spiritual values, and historical memory. The work is dedicated to Shusha's rich cultural heritage, regarded as the cradle of Azerbaijani music.
