SOCAR Georgia Petroleum Highlights Azerbaijan’s Prominent Role in Georgia’s Diesel Imports

Tbilisi: Georgia is entirely reliant on foreign fuel imports, with significant contributions from several key nations, as highlighted by Mirza Shavgulidze, Head of the Commercial Department at SOCAR Georgia Petroleum. During his address at the 2nd Caspian and Central Asia Oil Trade and Logistics Forum, organized by GLENMAR Group, Shavgulidze provided insights into the country's fuel import dynamics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shavgulidze emphasized that petroleum products are primarily imported from Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Azerbaijan. He specifically noted that Azerbaijan holds the second position in terms of diesel imports, which remain the primary product for the country.

Shavgulidze further elaborated that approximately 48% of Georgia's total imports are fuel-related, with diesel leading the way, followed by AI-95 and AI-92 grades of gasoline. This dependency underscores the strategic importance of maintaining robust trade relationships with these key supplier countries.
