Trial of Armenian Nationals Accused of War Crimes to Resume in February

Baku: The hearing of the open court session involving citizens of the Republic of Armenia, including Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Gukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, David Babayan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, and others, accused of committing various crimes against peace and humanity, is set to continue on February 5. These individuals face allegations of war crimes, including the preparation and conduct of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of war laws, and terrorism, related to Armenia's military actions against Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the hearings against these Armenian nationals began on January 17, 2025. The court had earlier adjourned for deliberations on December 26, 2025, after initial proceedings. The case involves fifteen defendants of Armenian origin, accused of participating in criminal activities during the aggressive conflict initiated by Armenia on Azerbaijani territory. These actions allegedly violated both domestic and international legal standards.

The crimes were reportedly committed as part of military aggression against Azerbaijan, allegedly orchestrated under the direct leadership of Armenian state institutions and officials. The accusations include written and verbal directives, material support, and centralized management by individuals such as Robert Sedraki Kocharyan, Serzh Azati Sargsyan, and others, who played significant roles in the alleged criminal activities.

The individuals, including Arayik Vladimiri Harutyunyan and Arkadi Arshaviri Ghukasyan, face charges under numerous articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. These charges encompass planning and waging a war of aggression, genocide, deportation, torture, and terrorism, among others. The legal proceedings continue as the Azerbaijani court seeks to address these serious allegations within the framework of international and domestic law.
