Washington: The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has broadened the authority of US law enforcement agencies, allowing them to deport illegal migrants through the “expedited removal” process, bypassing a court decision, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this change aims to enhance national security and public safety while reducing government costs by facilitating prompt immigration determinations. The DHS stated that the decision will enable the department to more effectively and efficiently address the large volume of individuals unlawfully present in the United States, ensuring their prompt removal if they are not entitled to enter, remain, or receive protection from removal.
The expedited removal process, previously reserved primarily for areas near the southern border, known for significant flows of illegal migrants, can now be applied across the entire United States. On January 20, President Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency at the border with Mexico. He stated that this would allow troops to be sent to the US-Mexico border to address what he described as a “disastrous invasion” of the country. Trump has consistently advocated for tougher immigration policies and the forced deportation of illegal migrants.
