Baku: The next stage of the project for exporting 'green energy' produced in Nakhchivan will be discussed at the meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council to be held in Baku in March, said Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar in a statement to APA's Trkiye bureau. The minister noted that cooperation with Azerbaijan is of strategic importance not only in electricity but also in natural gas.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the 33 billion cubic meter gas agreement signed with Azerbaijan will meet part of Trkiye's natural gas demand over the next 15 years. 'We have many projects that we are implementing together. Natural gas is very important to us. SOCAR is a key supplier for us, and this cooperation has been ongoing for many years,' the minister remarked.
The existing pipelines and the newly signed agreement will ensure the continuity of relations between Trkiye and Azerbaijan even after 2030. While Trkiye produces its own gas, the country's demand remains high. Over the next 15 years, Trkiye plans to continue purchasing part of its natural gas needs from Azerbaijan.
Additionally, there is a 'green energy corridor' project involving Azerbaijan, Georgia, Trkiye, and Bulgaria. This project aims to export electricity generated from renewable sources, particularly in Nakhchivan, to Trkiye and Europe. The necessary documents have already been signed, and the upcoming Southern Gas Corridor meeting in March is expected to advance the project to the next stage, the minister emphasized.
