Baku: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is aiming to gain a deeper understanding of urban transformation initiatives in Azerbaijan, as stated by its Executive Director, Anacl¡udia Rossbach. This interest follows the conclusion of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which has laid the groundwork for a robust partnership between UN-Habitat and Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Rossbach highlighted the collaborative framework established with Azerbaijan, emphasizing an exchange of experiences and expertise. The collaboration aims to leverage the success of the World Urban Forum to ensure that projects in Azerbaijan benefit from global knowledge and expertise. Rossbach noted the dual nature of this partnership, where implementation and learning occur simultaneously, facilitating a mutual exchange of insights on urban transformation.
Rossbach also pointed out that hosting both COP29 and WUF13 has created a foundation for broader cooperation. She mentioned ongoing discussions on how global practices can be integrated into intergovernmental processes. Azerbaijan's role as co-chair of the Open-ended Working Group on Housing was highlighted as crucial, as it is expected to deliver key policy recommendations and consolidate practices to address the global housing crisis.
