Baku: Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, highlighted the significant outcomes of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in contributing to the ten-year review of the New Urban Agenda. Speaking at the Local 2030 Coalition Special Event during the 2026 High-Level Political Forum, Guliyev emphasized the shift from global commitments to local implementation as a focal point of the Forum. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, WUF13 successfully convened 58,000 participants from 176 countries, showcasing a global commitment to urban development. The Forum witnessed the participation of 130 mayors, as well as ministers and senior officials, underlining the crucial role of local leadership in the global urban dialogue. A noteworthy development at WUF13 was the introduction of an NGO Forum, which provided civil society organizations with a platform to contribute locally rooted perspectives and solutions to the global urban conversation. Th is inclusion marked a significant step in enhancing the role of civil society in shaping urban policies. Guliyev noted that the outcomes of WUF13 strengthen the alignment of the New Urban Agenda with Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the broader 2030 Agenda. As the world approaches the SDG Summit in 2027, he stressed the importance of a shared approach towards achieving the 2030 goals, with Azerbaijan poised to collaborate with other Member States to promote the Forum's outcomes.
