UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board Stresses Preparedness for Urbanization Challenges

Baku: 'In the near future, 70% of the population will live in cities, with the majority being children and young people. That is why we must be ready to respond to the challenges this will create,' said Jonathan Some, the African Youth Representative to the UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board, during his remarks at the 'Children and Youth Assembly' held as part of WUF13.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, during the panel discussion, participants addressed issues related to adequate housing provision and exchanged views on the concept of a 'livable city.' The focus was on the significant demographic shift towards urban areas and the implications it has for younger populations. The assembly highlighted the necessity for strategic planning and proactive measures to ensure cities can accommodate the growing number of inhabitants, particularly focusing on youth and children.

Jonathan Some emphasized the importance of international cooperation and innovative solutions to create environments that support healthy and sustainable urban living. The discussions aimed to foster a deeper understanding of urban challenges and to encourage collaborative efforts to develop cities that are inclusive and supportive of their younger residents.
