UNEP Chief Highlights Challenges of Caspian Sea’s Declining Water Level

Baku: 'We are facing problems such as the declining level of the Caspian Sea,' Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Inger Andersen said at an international event dedicated to World Environment Day (WED) hosted by Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Andersen emphasized that the planet is sending signals that require immediate action. She highlighted that the opportunity to address climate change is now, and nations can benefit from taking action. Andersen pointed out that climate action presents an opportunity for better healthcare systems and strategic investments by the year 2050.

Andersen stressed the importance of transitioning to green energy, noting that renewable energy sources are expanding rapidly. She called for efficient use of electricity and reduction of emissions, stating the solutions are tangible and actionable. Her remarks underscored the urgency of the environmental challenges facing the region and the world, urging nations to capitalize on the existing momentum towards sustainable practices.
