Uzbekistan’s Parliamentary Election Sees High Voter Engagement, Smooth Process


TASHKENT: Voting in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election is actively underway, with significant participation from both young and elderly voters, as reported by a member of the electoral commission. The process is being closely monitored by international observers to ensure transparency and adherence to standards.

According to Trend News Agency, Sarvar Alimov, a member of the electoral commission, highlighted the active engagement of voters during his visit to polling station No. 19 in Tashkent. Alimov noted that many young voters are opting for electronic voting, which enhances convenience and accuracy in tallying votes. He affirmed that the voting process is proceeding smoothly, adhering to constitutional and international standards.

Polling stations across Uzbekistan opened for elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils of people’s deputies on October 27. The stations operate from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+5), with preliminary results anticipated on October 28. Five political
parties are participating in the elections, including the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.”

This election is conducted under a mixed electoral system in accordance with Uzbekistan’s updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. The system allocates 75 members of the Legislative Chamber to be elected in single-mandate constituencies via a majoritarian system, while another 75 members are elected through proportional representation with party lists. The “E-Saylov” information system fully digitalizes this year’s electoral process.

Over 850 foreign and international observers, including missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States, are present to monitor the elections, ensuring the process meets international scrutiny and standards.
