Baku: In January-July of this year, 14,773.2 thousand tonnes of oil were transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil export pipeline, down 8.6% year-on-year, the State Statistical Committee told APA-Economics. During the reporting period, BTC accounted for 76.8% of oil transportation through Azerbaijan's main oil pipelines.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the reporting period, 82.3% (12,154.7 thousand tonnes) of the oil transported via the BTC pipeline was oil produced in Azerbaijan, while 17.7% (2,618.5 thousand tonnes) was oil received from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. It should be noted that last year, 36,306.2 thousand tonnes of oil were transported through oil pipelines in Azerbaijan, down 6.3% year-on-year. BTC accounted for 74.9% of transportation, and 27,179.2 thousand tonnes of oil were transported through this pipeline during the reporting period, down 7.8% year-on-year.
During the previous reporting period, 84.8%, or 23,056.9 thousand tonnes, of the oil transported via the BTC pipeline was oil produced in Azerbaijan, marking a decrease of 4.6%. Meanwhile, 15.2%, or 4,122.3 thousand tonnes, was oil received from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, reflecting a decrease of 22.2%.
The data suggests a significant reliance on Azerbaijani oil in the BTC pipeline, with a notable decline in the volume of oil received from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan compared to the previous year.
