TASHKENT: Voter turnout in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election reached 62.7 percent by 3:00 PM local time, according to a briefing by Bakhrom Kuchkarov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan. This figure represents approximately 12.5 million of the 19.9 million eligible voters casting their ballots as the nation elects representatives to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local kengashes, Trend News Agency reports.
According to Trend News Agency, Polling stations opened on October 27 at 8:00 AM and will remain open until 8:00 PM (GMT+5), with preliminary results expected the following day. The election sees participation from five political parties, including the Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” the Ecological Party, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat.”
This election cycle marks the implementation of a mixed electoral system under the updated Constitution and national electoral laws.
It entails electing 75 members of the Legislative Chamber in single-mandate constituencies through a majoritarian system, whereas the remaining 75 members are chosen via proportional representation with party lists.
The election process is fully digitalized through the “E-Saylov” information system, enhancing the administration and transparency of the elections. Over 850 international observers, including representatives from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), are present to monitor the proceedings.
