Baku: In January-July of this year, 15,172 kWh of electricity was generated in Azerbaijan, which represents a 3% decrease year-on-year, APA-Economics reports this, citing the State Statistical Committee.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, 14,734.9 kWh of the electricity generated in the country during the reporting period accounted for marketable output, reflecting a decrease of 2.5%. The largest share of electricity generated in the country, amounting to 11,441.5 kWh, came from thermal power plants, marking an 8.7% reduction compared to the same period in 2025.
During the initial months of this year, electricity generation in Azerbaijan was also supported by hydropower plants and other alternative and renewable energy sources. Notably, wind power plants in the region generated 606 million kWh of electricity, representing a remarkable 22-fold increase year-on-year.
The comprehensive electricity generation details for Azerbaijan between January and July 2026 show a varied performance across different production types. While the overall electricity production was at 97% of the previous year's figure, specific sectors such as hydroelectric power stations and solar power plants exceeded their previous outputs, with increases of 5.6% and 5%, respectively. Additionally, electricity produced from biomass and waste incineration plants rose by 6.7%.
