Baku: An event themed 'NDCs 3.0: Urban Law and Multi-level Governance to Enable Climate Commitments' was held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). The event took place on May 19 and was moderated by the UN Resident Coordinator in Trkiye, Babatunde Ahonsi. It aimed to explore the role of law, governance, and policy in aligning national climate ambitions with local realities and emphasized the importance of positioning cities at the center of climate action.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, discussions at the event highlighted that while the impact of climate change is universally felt, the ability to address its effects varies significantly. Vulnerable and under-resourced populations experience these impacts differently compared to those with sufficient resources. In this context, cities are at the forefront of experiencing climate impacts. Migration patterns show a movement from rural areas to urban centers, and cities are the primary sites of infrastructure destruction during events like floods.
