Tbilisi: Today in the Georgian capital, significant agreements were finalized between BTKI Railways LLC-a collaborative venture of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) subsidiary companies-and Georgian Railway JSC. These agreements aim to fully operationalize the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line through strategic collaborations, as announced by ADY to APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the agreements encompass essential aspects such as utilizing the Marabda-Akhalkalaki railway infrastructure and providing terminal services at the Akhalkalaki station. These developments are set to enhance operational efficiency along the BTK, a critical segment of the Middle Corridor, enabling an increase in freight transportation volumes.
It was highlighted at the signing event that ADY has successfully completed substantial repair, restoration, and modernization projects along the 184-kilometer Georgian section of the BTK line. This section, known for its challenging geographical terrain, now boasts an increased annual freight capacity, rising from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. The modernization efforts aim to boost the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and establish the BTK as a principal freight transport artery in the region.
BTKI Railways LLC, established on August 13, 2024, focuses on efficiently managing BTK operations, attracting new cargo, and strengthening strategic transport links. The joint venture seeks to enhance the Middle Corridor's potential, positioning it as a pivotal route for freight transport.
