BAKU — In a significant diplomatic and legal engagement, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, met with Tesfaye Wakjira, State Minister at the Attorney General Division of Ethiopia, underscoring a deepening cooperation between the two nations within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting, which took place on September 29, served as a platform for Aliyev to congratulate Wakjira on his recent appointment and to discuss the strengthening ties between their countries. The talks highlighted the progressive relationship, with Aliyev noting daily enhancements in bilateral interactions.
The discussions also covered Azerbaijan’s extensive prosecutorial reforms, focusing on crime reduction and the vital role of international partnerships in legal processes. Aliyev praised the exchange of experiences and the advantages of reciprocal prosecutorial visits. The meeting further delved into the strategic significance of Azerbaijan hosting the upcoming 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29), a move seen as pivotal in promoting global unity.
Adding to the agenda, Aliyev extended an invitation to his Ethiopian counterpart to attend a high-level plenary meeting of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) scheduled to be held in Baku on November 15. He emphasized the need to enhance ties between the prosecutorial and justice bodies of the two nations and lauded the ‘ASAN khidmet’ concept for its role in fostering these relationships.
The head of the Ethiopian delegation expressed appreciation for the hospitality and acknowledged the conducive atmosphere for nurturing a comprehensive development of bilateral relations.
