Baku: ‘The religious knowledge of clergy in Azerbaijan is not satisfactory,” said Gunduz Ismayilov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions, during his speech at the conference themed ‘Religious Thought Culture: Pedagogical Perspectives,’ APA reports. He noted that there is a need for clergy with broad religious knowledge in Azerbaijan: ‘In addition, in Azerbaijan as well as in other countries, schools play an important role in combating religious radicalism, superstition, and sectarianism. Education has a secular character. Religion is not limited only to Sharia. Religion also has cultural and moral aspects. At this point, education plays a major role.’
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the conference is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Education and the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions.
