Azerbaijan Confirms No Wedding Restrictions in Baku During COP29

BAKU: Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, will not impose any restrictions on weddings or require SMS permits during the COP29 climate conference, which is set to take place at the city’s Olympic Stadium, according to an informed source cited by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, the source debunked rumors suggesting a ban on weddings and other ceremonial events during the international gathering. The reassurance comes amid concerns that the conference might affect local celebrations and movement within the city. “Only certain restrictions related to traffic will be in place, in accordance with security requirements,” the source added, clarifying that these are the only limitations expected to impact residents and visitors during the event.

COP29, scheduled for this November in Baku, was confirmed during the COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai on December 11 last year. The annual Conference of the Parties (COP) serves as the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Clima
te Change, established in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. The aim of the convention is to prevent hazardous human interference with the climate system. With 198 countries as signatories, the COP typically convenes once a year unless decided otherwise by the parties. The inaugural COP meeting was held in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
