Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan Seek to Enhance Middle Corridor Cooperation

Ashgabat: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan are showing interest in expanding cooperation on the Middle Corridor, a key transit route in the region. On February 10, 2026, a quadrilateral meeting took place in Ashgabat, involving key railway officials: Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Mammed Akmammedov, Minister of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan, Zufar Narzullayev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways JSC, and Lasha Abashidze, General Director of Georgian Railways JSC.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting focused on mutual interests and opportunities for expanding cooperation in the railway sector, particularly regarding the Middle Corridor. Emphasis was placed on increasing the competitiveness and transportation volume of the corridor, along with the digitalization of operations to enhance cargo transportation efficiency.

The discussions highlighted the 'Memorandum of Understanding on transport and logistics cooperation,' signed in Turkmenbashi the previous year. The memorandum involves the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, and is expected to significantly boost cooperation efforts.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol addressing digitalization and the development of freight transportation on the Middle Corridor, as well as diagnostics of the corridor.
