Azerbaijan Launches Ambitious Reconstruction in Liberated Tugh Village

BAKU: Azerbaijan has initiated a comprehensive reconstruction project in Tugh village, Khojavend district, which includes building homes, educational institutions, and converting existing structures into community facilities, Trend News Agency reported.

According to Trend News Agency, Sabuhi Abdullayev, Deputy Executive Director of the Reconstruction, Construction, and Management Service in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, detailed the plans at the Caspian Construction Week in Baku. He highlighted that the initial phase of the project encompasses constructing 30 private houses, a school for 360 students, and a kindergarten for 50 children. Additionally, several existing buildings are set to be transformed into a hotel, a cultural center, and a pharmacy.

The restoration efforts extend beyond Tugh to the nearby city of Hadrut, where demolition and site leveling are currently underway. Plans for Hadrut include the restoration of 11 residential buildings and the construction of four two-story reside
ntial buildings, each housing four apartments. The city’s old post office is also slated for modernization.

Furthermore, Hadrut will see the renovation of a two-story market and restaurant and the development of a three-story hotel. Abdullayev also mentioned that designs are being developed for additional amenities such as recreational areas, a park, exhibition space, children’s playgrounds, a library, and a parking area capable of accommodating 64 vehicles.

The Caspian Construction Week, taking place from October 15-17 at the Baku Expo Center, serves as a pivotal meeting point for the construction industry in the region, hosting over 380 companies from 22 countries.

Tugh village, historically significant and once home to 4,800 people, was under Armenian occupation from October 31, 1991, until its liberation by Azerbaijani forces on November 9, 2020. During the occupation, the village suffered extensive destruction, including damage to residences, ancient structures, and natural landmarks.
