Khankendi: Azerbaijan has relocated former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara district.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the latest relocation took place on June 19, with 18 families comprising 68 people moving to Khankendi and 2 families with 12 people relocating to the village of Ashaghi Oratag in Aghdara district.
The event was organized by the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts. Sabuhi Gahramanov, Deputy Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in these regions, and Mahmud Afandiyev, Deputy Director of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service, presented the keys to the new apartments to the relocated families.
During the ceremony, S. Gahramanov congratulated the residents on their return and highlighted the restoration and reconstruction efforts in the region. He noted that necessary infrastructure and social facilities have been established to ensure comfortable living conditions. Employment measures, including job creation, vocational training, and employment programs, are being implemented to ensure sustainable employment for the returning citizens.
Additionally, employees of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) conducted a mine safety awareness session with the residents. They provided information on the dangers of mines, rules of conduct in risky areas, and steps to take if suspicious objects are found.
The residents expressed their joy and gratitude for returning to their homeland. The relocation to liberated territories is part of a phased approach under the Great Return Program, which aims to resettle former IDPs to their native lands. The event was attended by representatives from the Special Representation of the President and the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.
