Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry Analyzes 2024 Operations and Sets Goals for 2025


Baku: A meeting of the Board Session of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan was held under the leadership of Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, to analyze the operational situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian conditional border and assess the results of 2024.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting, conducted via video teleconference, involved high-ranking officials including Deputies of the Defense Minister, Commanders of different troops, and various military leaders. The session began with a commemoration of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Shehids, who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty. The Defense Minister highlighted reforms under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, emphasizing the enhancement of the Army’s combat capabilities and the adoption of modern weapon systems.



The discussion also covered the Azerbaijan Army’s service-combat activities throughout 2024. The Army participated in 20 bilateral and multilateral exercises, which enhanced the combat capabilities and professionalism of military personnel. Significant attention was given to mobilization training, with over 10,000 reservists receiving training in weapons and equipment use.



Participants were briefed on engineering activities in liberated territories, including new road construction and military infrastructure development. The Azerbaijan Army ensured logistics provision, high-quality nutrition, and equipment readiness for troops. Last year, objectives related to improving military personnel’s social-living conditions and logistics were achieved.



Innovations in military education were also highlighted, with new military colleges and officer courses introduced to modernize the system. Structural changes were made to optimize staffing within the Army.



Colonel General Hasanov emphasized the importance of international cooperation in military, military-technical, and military-educational fields for ensuring regional peace and security. Plans for 2025 include enhancing personnel professionalism and combat training, with a focus on safety and vigilance.



The meeting concluded with instructions for winter provision and the declaration of 2025 as the ‘Year of Constitution and Sovereignty’ in Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of combat training and task fulfillment.
