COP29 to Enhance Accessibility for Disabled Participants, Announces Expert

BAKU: The upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan will feature unprecedented measures to ensure that disabled individuals can participate equally, according to Kamal Mammadov, an expert from the COP29 Accessibility Department. According to Trend News Agency, during a media tour at the Baku Olympic Stadium, Mammadov highlighted the significant efforts being undertaken to make the event accessible. "We'll present COP29 to the population as a new model. A special system for people with hearing and speech impairments will be installed in the meeting rooms," he stated. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to facilitate full participation for all attendees, regardless of their disabilities. The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during the last COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, oversees these annual conferences to prevent hazardous human interventio ns in the climate system. The first COP meeting was held in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany.
