First Lunar Eclipse of 2025 to Occur on March 14

Baku: The first lunar eclipse of 2025 is set to take place on March 14, as announced by the Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU). According to APA, this event will be a total lunar eclipse, beginning at 09:09:33 local time and concluding at 12:47:48. The duration of the eclipse will extend for 3 hours and 38 minutes, with the total eclipse occurring between 10:26:06 and 11:31:26. The peak of the eclipse is expected at 10:59:56.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Moon will exhibit a red-orange hue for 65 minutes. This phenomenon, often referred to as a “Blood Moon,” occurs because the Sun’s rays, when the eclipse is near the horizon, do not directly illuminate the Moon’s surface. Instead, the rays pass through Earth’s atmosphere, causing shorter wavelengths such as blue light to scatter, while longer wavelengths like red light reach and reflect off the Moon. The colors observed can vary based on the concentration of dust, water, and other atmospheric particles, as well as temperature and humidity.

This celestial event will be most prominently visible in North and South America. The total eclipse will also be observable in the Pacific Ocean, America, Western Europe, and Western Africa. However, the eclipse will not be visible from Azerbaijan as the Moon will be below the horizon during this period.
