PARIS: A member of the Maore Committee has accused the French government of neglecting critical infrastructure issues in Mayotte, particularly concerning the island’s drinking water supply. During a press conference focused on the “Human Rights Violations in France’s Overseas Territories,” Aboubacar Mattoir highlighted the urgency of the situation and criticized the government’s lack of response to appeals for action.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mattoir emphasized that the committee has repeatedly urged the government to address the water crisis, yet no meaningful steps have been taken. “They should take initiative to resolve this, but they have not taken any steps,” Mattoir stated. He noted that since 2018, Mayotte has faced blockades that have exacerbated the island’s difficulties, underscoring the critical need for governmental intervention to improve living conditions and infrastructure.
