Baku: In recent years, the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan and the Southern Gas Corridor in ensuring Moldova’s energy security has been increasing, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, Carolina Novak, said during her speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Secretary highlighted that, amid risks arising in supply after 2021, Moldova is focusing on alternative sources and routes for gas and electricity. The Trans-Balkan pipeline, the interconnector with Bulgaria, and the establishment of energy connections with Romania and other countries are central to Moldova’s diversification efforts.
Moldova has expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s assistance in their energy security efforts. Novak specifically acknowledged the support from both Romania and Azerbaijan in logistics and gas supply. She referenced a statement by the Vice President of the Republic of Korea, emphasizing the value of friends who assist during challenging times. Azerbaijan’s support has been significant for Moldova in the energy sector.
Novak also underscored the strategic importance of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Middle Corridor, not only for energy but also for regional stability and prosperity. These projects foster new opportunities for peace and cooperation among connected countries. She mentioned the recent tariff agreement signed between the energy operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine as a crucial step forward in this collaborative effort.
