Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Achieves 55% Green Energy in Power Generation

NAKCHIVAN: The share of green energy in power generation in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has reached 55 percent, marking a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions, as announced by Maharram Abbasov, the Deputy Head of the State Energy Service.

According to Trend News Agency, Deputy Head Abbasov highlighted the environmental benefits of this achievement, noting that increased use of green energy correlates with lower carbon dioxide emissions. He emphasized the region’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2050, in line with national goals. The rise in green energy’s share not only supports this objective but also signifies a substantial decrease in carbon emissions.

On October 11, Nakhchivan’s electricity demand, totaling 947,508 kWh, was entirely met by green energy sources. This shift allowed for a saving of 130,000 cubic meters of natural gas and reduced daily carbon emissions to zero. Abbasov pointed out that these results were achieved in alignment with the g
oals set during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), promoting the efficient use of alternative energy.

Furthermore, Abbasov called for continued environmental responsibility to combat climate change and global warming. He advocated for controlled electricity use and the importance of not wasting resources to ensure a cleaner, more livable world for future generations.
