National Contribution Document for Azerbaijan’s Climate Strategy in Progress, Says Deputy Energy Minister


BAKU: A national contribution document, pivotal for Azerbaijan’s climate strategy, is underway, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of Energy and COP29 CEO Elnur Soltanov. The announcement was made during an event focused on sustainable transport solutions for the future.

According to Trend News Agency, Soltanov emphasized that this document is set to play a crucial role in climate discussions, detailing the commitments and action plans by Azerbaijan to mitigate climate change. He revealed that Azerbaijan’s carbon emissions in 2022 surpassed 61 million tons of CO2, constituting roughly one-thousandth of the global total.

The deputy minister highlighted the transport sector as a significant contributor to Azerbaijan’s emissions, accounting for approximately 15 percent. Within this sector, aviation is responsible for about 5 percent of emissions, while maritime and rail transport contribute 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively.
