NGIC Co-chair Calls for Increased Funding to Combat Global Health Crises


Baku: “Measles, rubella, and other infectious diseases are more widespread in underdeveloped countries,” Ismail Serageldin, Co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, emphasized during a panel discussion titled “Global Health Crisis: New Frontiers in Preparedness and Equity” at the 12th Global Baku Forum.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Serageldin highlighted the need for expanded global measures to prevent pandemics similar to COVID-19. He stressed the importance of active efforts against the spread of infectious diseases, particularly in underdeveloped countries, and underscored the significance of global health monitoring. Serageldin admitted that he could not have imagined the widespread impact of pandemics a few years ago and urged for increased funding in global health to enable countries to combat pandemics more effectively. He reminded the audience of the lives lost to COVID-19 worldwide and warned of the potential recurrence if efforts are not expanded.
