Shalala Kamilova Highlights Growing Opportunities for Women in Central Asia and South Caucasus Trade and Logistics

Baku: Expanding women's participation in strategically significant economic sectors is becoming increasingly important, according to Shalala Kamilova, Program Manager for Europe and Central Asia at the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). She emphasized the development of transport corridors and regional cooperation across Central Asia and the South Caucasus, which are creating new opportunities for women in trade, transport, and logistics.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the region has become an important link in international transport and trade routes in recent years, generating a demand for qualified professionals and greater participation of women in decision-making processes. Despite progress, women are underrepresented in leadership roles within transport and logistics companies and professional industry associations.

Kamilova stressed that expanding women's participation would enhance management efficiency and lead to innovative approaches across the sector. She highlighted the importance of strengthening professional ties among Central Asian and South Caucasus countries. The exchange of expertise, joint initiatives, and development of regional professional networks create a cooperative space and new opportunities for human capital development.

The regional program manager noted that regional partnerships are key drivers of sustainable economic growth amid growing international trade and transport connectivity. Expanding women's participation in crucial economic sectors is particularly relevant, as it will strengthen economic ties among regional countries and enhance their international competitiveness.

Support for the Women in Trade Logistics Partnership (Women in TLP) is provided through CIPE's regional Advancing Economic Freedom and Resilience Program in Europe and Eurasia. The program aims to enhance economic freedom and resilience by strengthening business associations and other organizations promoting reforms and a favorable environment for business development.

As part of the program, CIPE supports partner organizations by strengthening institutional capacity, providing training, mentorship, and international knowledge exchange, and assisting initiatives aimed at advancing reforms, fostering public-private dialogue, and expanding women's economic opportunities. Emphasis is placed on strengthening regional cooperation and facilitating the exchange of best practices among organizations from Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Women in TLP is a regional professional platform for women in trade, transport, and logistics across Central Asia and the South Caucasus. It promotes women's leadership, professional cooperation, and international exchange of expertise within the sector. In recent years, the platform has expanded its presence in the region and participates in international forums and discussions on transport corridors, logistics digitalization, and international cooperation, advocating for greater women's participation in decision-making and sustainable sector development.
