Baku: Azerbaijani gas can reach energy-deficient regions of Europe, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated during the ministerial-level plenary session held within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports. He highlighted the significance of diversifying energy sources and supply routes, emphasizing the potential for cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan in this sector.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ukraine has already integrated into Europe's new gas map through the Trans-Balkan route. Shmyhal mentioned that this route allows Caspian gas to reach European regions facing energy shortages. The initial test supplies of Azerbaijani gas through this corridor indicate the feasibility of this initiative.
Shmyhal further noted that Ukraine has substantial underground gas storage facilities, with a capacity of about 30 billion cubic meters, which could be crucial in a new energy supply framework. This infrastructure could enhance Ukraine's role as a significant transit and service hub.
The minister concluded that such collaboration would bolster Azerbaijan's status as a dependable energy provider, strengthen Ukraine's transit capabilities, and offer Europe stable alternative energy sources.
