TURKPA Secretary General Outlines Strategic Initiatives in Meeting with Kazakh Mazhilis Chairman

Astana: TURKPA Chairman-in-Office, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov hosted TURKPA Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan in a significant meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The discussions centered around the recent activities and future plans of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Secretary General Ramil Hasan provided an extensive briefing on TURKPA's recent endeavors, including visits to countries such as Trkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Uzbekistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He also detailed bilateral meetings with parliamentary and foreign affairs leaders during these visits.

The Secretary General highlighted participation in the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, where discussions with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong explored potential collaboration. TURKPA's involvement in the 23rd Autumn Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Istanbul was also emphasized, along with the coordination efforts among member states and discussions on a draft Roadmap for future joint actions.

Hasan revealed that the TURKPA International Secretariat has circulated a draft Working Plan for 2026 for evaluation and discussion among member parties. He suggested the submission of an official application for TURKPA to gain observer status in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, pending further instructions.

The meeting also highlighted plans for a 2026 international conference titled 'New Cooperation in Eurasia: The Role of TURKPA in Developing Strategic Relations - Parliamentary Diplomacy.' Additionally, the Secretary General proposed organizing meetings of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security, and Health committees of member parliaments under Kazakhstan's Chairmanship, which received support from Chairman Koshanov.

Further discussions included the next year's scheduled permanent commission meetings and recent official visits to Hungary and Uzbekistan, with a focus on Uzbekistan's potential full membership in TURKPA.

Yerlan Koshanov expressed satisfaction with TURKPA's progress and conveyed appreciation to Secretary General Hasan and his team, indicating plans for an official visit to Azerbaijan and a potential visit to the TURKPA International Secretariat. Koshanov reaffirmed Kazakhstan's support for TURKPA's initiatives and discussed various organizational matters.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev and Chairperson of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security Aigul Kuspan. Secretary General Hasan was accompanied by Deputy Secretary General Talgat Aduov and Chief of Protocol Yadigar Mammadov during the visit.
