Baku: An agreement has been reached on the extradition of an internationally wanted individual to Azerbaijan, APA reports. Following intensive negotiations and after the submission of an extradition request along with all necessary documents to the competent authorities of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, an agreement was finalized for the extradition of Pakistani citizen Qasim Sohail Mohammad.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office indicated that materials collected in a criminal case under preliminary investigation by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs provided substantial grounds to suspect that Qasim Sohail Mohammad, as part of an organized group, utilized electronic information technologies to illegally obtain funds from the bank accounts of customers of foreign banks. These funds were allegedly used to purchase goods online from stores in Baku, which were later sold through mobile trading to convert the proceeds into cash.
The evidence collected led to a decision to charge Mohammad under the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Due to his evasion of the investigation, a pre-trial detention measure was imposed, and he was placed on the international wanted list through the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Baku. Through operational search measures, Mohammad was located and detained in the United Kingdom.
The Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice is currently executing the necessary procedures to transfer him to Azerbaijan. The Prosecutor General's Office emphasized its commitment to ongoing cooperation with foreign partners, including Interpol, to identify and extradite internationally wanted individuals to Azerbaijan.
